Modeling and Design of Clean-Power Inverter Based Resources (23-04)

Principal Investigator: Dr. Rob Cuzner

This project is directed at the assurance of clean-power interfaces to ac grids through the control and attenuation of CM and DM emissions produced by Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), with special emphasis on how emissions in the 2-150kHz range are contributing to voltage and current Waveform Distortion (WD) in grids with high penetration of IBRs. It is a two-year effort. Year one is directed towards Common Mode Equivalent Model (CEM) and Differential Equivalent Model (DEM) validation. Year two is directed towards increased integration of validated CEMs/DEMs (over a range of voltage and power ratings) into a virtual prototyping process and demonstration of Real-Time Hardware-in-the-Loop EMI measurements/processing that is integrated into an EMI test and characterization platform that integrates model validation with a time-accelerated design and optimization process.
